Domaine Gaël Felix Village: Quincy Appellation: 7 ha Grower: Gaël Felix Website: https://domainegaelfelix.fr Quincy is a small appellation of 330 hectares in the Centre-Loire which is nestled between two rivers; the Cher and the Arnot. The rivers have left deposits of sand and flinty-gravel in terraces above a base of limestone, producing soils which are well suited for vineyards and bring both a minerality and a finesse to Sauvignon Blanc. Although not well known, the Quincy vineyards trace their history back to the Gallo-Roman era and were among the earliest to gain AOC status, which they received in 1936, the same year as Sancerre. After studying viticulture and oenology, Gaël Felix hit the road and for twenty years worked with talented wine makers in Côte Rotie, Sancerre, and Alsace before settling in his native province of Berry(Centre-Loire). In 2022, Gaël purchased seven hetares in Quincy, which are divided into 10 parcels, most of which are in the lieu-dit “Les Victoires.” Almost all of his vines are massale selection. In addition to Sauvignon Blanc, Gaël grows some Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Pinot Gris. The domaine was certified organic in 2024 and Gaël employs a number of biodynamic preparations in his farming. He ferments with indigenous yeasts unless he sees a problem and uses a minimal amount of SO2 throughout the process. He says that his work in the cellar is 50% technique and 50% instinct. Quincy « 1ere Confidence » The cuvee 1ere Confidence is produced from several parcels in the lieu-dit “Les Victoires”. The grapes are hand harvested and pass through a “table de tri” before entering the winery. The fermentation is done in stainless steel tanks, and then the wine ages for a year in tanks 90% and 500L barrels (demi-muids) 10%. Quincy « 2eme Confidence » The cuvée 2eme Confidence is produced from the lieu-dit “La Bourgogne”. The grapes are hand harvested and pass through a “table de tri” before entering the winery. The fermentation is done in stainless steel tanks. The wine then ages for one year in a 2,500L tronconique foudre, and then an additional year in stainless steel before bottling.
